Every time I am cleaning at home, I pay special attention to how the house smells. To be fair, I don’t really enjoy the chemical smell of many cleaning detergents. So I have been trying out some tips on cleaning my house in a way that leaves a pleasant and natural fragrance.

My first tip is not to mix too many fragrances. If you go a little crazy and use different aroma for your detergents, aroma candles, or essential oils; you will most likely get a headache instead of pleasant aromatherapy. Choose something natural like citrus, eucalyptus, lavender, or maybe cinnamon. All those fruity or vanilla fragrances are kind of nice but only for a little while. You’ll find out that if you have to be in it all day long, you could get fed up with it.

Essential oils

So as I mentioned above, essential oils are the most natural way of refreshing your house. And you can use them in many ways. The best tip of all is to add a few drops to your vacuum cleaner filter. Once you turn it on, It will blow out the pleasant smell all over you home. The same goes for your air filtration. As an allergic person, I tend to use air purifiers during the seasons. Once again, the smell will be spreading out of the machine. Also, you can add a few drops to your furniture polish.

Air humidifier

This one is a little bit retro, but you can buy this ceramic bowl to hang on your heating and add a few drops of aroma oil. When your heating is on, it slowly evaporates the water, making your air at home more humid and unique. There are also electric ones you can get, but not all of them support the addition of oils. Once we are at some gadgets, you can also buy an aroma lamp. You know, the ceramic candle holder with a little bowl above, where you pour water and oil? It can be a great decoration but also one of the most intensive aromatherapy options. These days, there is also a small ultrasound version you can buy for like 10 euros. Usually, it’s in combination with color LED lights, to make you as chill as possible.

Lavender packs for your closet

Does having moths eating up your cashmere upsets you? Well, upset them back with lavender. They are repulsed by the smell. It’s a perfect sewing project for beginners. You can get those little jewellery pockets out of organza and fill it up with lavender flowers that you can buy pretty much anywhere.

Use lemon as a cleaning agent

Having a soft lemon at home, you no longer wish to eat? Use it as a cleaning detergent. Cut in half, sprinkle some salt on it and scrub your bathtub or shower with it. It will get rid of all the buildup. Lemon juice is perfect for removing the limescale of your electric kettle.

Soda and vinegar to remove a nasty smells

Soda is an excellent odorizer for carpets, mattresses, sofas, etc. The vinegar can remove smells from your shoes, or it can help you with moldy stench in your dishwasher or washing machine.
